Spector Sound Man Dies
Larry Levine, the sound man in large part responsible for Phil Spector's legendary wall of sound, has died aged 80.
Recently interviewed by The Associated Press, Levine spoke of meeting Spector in the sixties and the collaboration that lasted many years. "He said to me he had the sound in his head that he wanted to create," said Levine, and the engineer set out to build the trademark wall of sound that involved dozens of musicians and instruments as well as echo chambers.
Besides working on such legendary Spector classics such as Doo Ron Ron and Be My Baby, he also engineered on The Sonics' album Introducing The Sonics and the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds.
He is survived by his wife Lyn and two sons.
