Introduction

Considered by many to be the most seminal rock band of the 1980s to emerge from Australia, their mid-decade releases on the Citadel label led to the rediscovery of sixties music and fashion in their homeland. Despite having never toured during their original incarnation they are held in high esteem around the world amongst fans of classic sixties-inspired rock’n’roll. The Stems epitomised ‘80s indie rock in Australia and are one of only a handful of bands, including the Hoodoo Gurus and The Sunnyboys, that cracked the mainsteam Australian charts with an indie approach during that time.
