The Sonics

After seeing The Sonics live at Cavestomp we definitely want to see them here in London - they were absolutely amazingly. And, as you'd expect, in the weeks following our return from New York, a lot of people have asked if we're going to get the Sonics to come over. However, at this point in time they say that they aren't yet thinking about whether or not they want to play any more gigs at all let alone travel to Europe to play. But they do say that if they decide that they want to come to London they will let us know. So, watch this space...

berlin

thanks for the info

Berlin record shops

Doherty

>>they would have played for free in sweat-soaked shirts.

God Bless Muck & the Mires...

Docherty

Esp. frustrating as Muck and the Mires had asked to play with the Sonics months ago....on the way to the Forum Sunday from their Ryan's Bar gig we dropped their kit off at my flat...they would have played for free in sweat-soaked shirts.

doherty

Great shame that a more deserving band didnt get the chance.I hear NUT were under pressure to have Doherty due to NME pumping money into gig/fave reviews.Disgraceful he was asked .Thank god i went friday.PA was awful and the forum bouncers are meatheads.Horrors were a joke i gather.Only on the bill to get numbers up?

The Sonics + Doherty

No we didn't.

NUT staff should have known better, why didn't they have another stand by band? I'm sure a lot of band would love to share the show with the sonics. Doherty ruined other band's chance!

Sonics

So... Is anyone surprised that Doherty didn't turn up? No, didn't think so...

the sonics and pete

Well happy with Sunday tickets. Love him, love them - result. Bloody perfect gig!!!

Sonics at Cavestomp

I was at both nights for the Sonics at Cavestomp in New York and I don't think they were so much 'tamer' on the Friday night. I wasn't disappointed in them, that's for sure. They were a bit better on the Sunday, yes, but then that was tempered by the fact that those of us who were there on the Friday didn't have that anticipation beforehand of seeing them for the first time. So, for me, both nights kind of balanced out each other.

Peter Doherty

Both myself, Peter and the rest of Babyshambles are MASSIVE fans of The Sonics. If Peter weren't playing we were planning on going anyway, without a shadow of a doubt, both nights.

This is The Sonics' show though and we are simply honoured that they would even accept our request to play on their bill never mind be aware who Peter is.

On the subject of knowing who Peter is .... I know a lot has been written and said about him but leave all that aside at least give him ten minutes to make your mind up about him as a musician which is primarily what he is when all the tabloid furore is stripped away. I'll credit you with enough intelligence to suss that not all that is written in these rags is true. No one is an angel but surely there's been a wee bit of demonisation ... grant me that at least.

At the moment we have the good burghers of Balloch and Guernsey running campaigns and lobbying their local authorities not to allow us to set foot within their hallowed towns and teritories. Just an example of how ridiculous our situation has become. I'll credit you fellows with more sense than this though.

I'd like to think that as music fans you'll give him a chance before you dismiss him. Take ten minutes to listen to the music and after that if you don't like it fair enough everyone is entitled to their opinion just as any musician is entitled to a stage.

It's just better to have heard him before dismissing him offhand, as is so often the case with Peter.

Anyway, I really hope you do enjoy him but worst comes to the worst you will have had a proper chance to make your mind up and ........ You still got The Sonics to look forward to and hopefully we won't have spoiled your night too much.

Doherty supporting the Sonics

We can just turn up for the sonics anyway.

I heard the Sonics are on stage 9.30pm ;)

Doherty supporting the Sonics

I've been talking to Doherty's manager about this - he is quite often in the audience at Dirty Water. And, apparently, Doherty is a huge fan of the Sonics and asked to be able to play.

Personally, I think there are hundreds of other acts that are more suitable to be on the bill. However, despite what one might think of Doherty as a person, I do think that he is sincere in his reasons for wanting to play.

After receiving a request from a newspaper for an interview and photos at the Forum, Doherty and his manager said: "This is the Sonics show. We are just happy to be on the same stage on the same evening. We would prefer all shots to be of them and consider a 'no photos of Peter policy' to be the right thing. There will be no interview with Peter but a quote from him about The Sonics and their influence can be arranged if approved by The Sonics themselves."

Perhaps the thinking is that it will help sell tickets - but they managed to sell out the Friday well in advance without the help of any name acts supporting them. Though with the amount of money it's costing to bring them over, however, I can understand Rob Bailey being nervous.

So, the reasons for Doherty wanting to do it are right and good. But it is, I think, still inappropriate for him to be on with the Sonics.

Doherty – special guest to the Sonics?

Thank Christ I didn't sell my Friday ticket in the belief the Sunday will be better.
What a joke.

re: pete doherty

Special guest is pete doherty? really?

The Sonics on the 23rd

Special guest is Pete Doherty.

High risk low return. (sorry his fans)

Sonics on the 23rd

D'oh!
I should've guessed...
At Cavestomp on the Friday night the Sonics were much 'tamer' because they (especially Roslie - no screaming!!) were saving themselves for the Sunday night show... The same thing will undoubtedly happen again!

Maybe I'll be selling me Friday night tickets...

I hope Rob gets a decent f**kin' support for the Sunday! (instead of someone he reckons will appeal to the 'kids'

Sonics ticket for Friday

I need to buy a floor ticket for Friday...can anybody help?

The Sonics 2nd show added on

The Sonics 2nd show added on 23rd of March. (support band is Horrors) I wonder how much is the cost of tickets on Sunday show 'cos I have already bought tickets for the Sonics show only but would love to go Sunday again. Probably I should have bought weekend tickets..

Sonics in London

Hello Steve, you thinking of coming over from Berlin? The line up that I saw in New York, which I assume will be the same here in London, was three original Sonics. It was Gerry Roslie on vocals and keyboard, with Larry Parypa on guitar and Rob Lind on saxophone - with Ricky Lynn Johnson (who was in the Wailers) and Don Wilhelm (who was in The Daily Flash) on bass and vocals. So, no it's not the full original line up - but the two replacements are from sixties bands that were based in the North West. And, whilst it would have been great to see all five original Sonics, the two shows I saw at Cavestomp last November was absolutely fantastic.

The Sonics refomed

How many of the original Sonics are in this line -up? Roslie and both Parypas?

THE SONICS

Cant believe this would ever happen..The Sonics are playin at The Forum, kentish town on 21st march..tickets on sale....enjoy!!
