Spector Sound Man Dies
Larry Levine, the sound man in large part responsible for Phil Spector's legendary wall of sound, has died aged 80.
Recently interviewed by The Associated Press, Levine spoke of meeting Spector in the sixties and the collaboration that lasted many years. "He said to me he had the sound in his head that he wanted to create," said Levine, and the engineer set out to build the trademark wall of sound that involved dozens of musicians and instruments as well as echo chambers.
Besides working on such legendary Spector classics such as Doo Ron Ron and Be My Baby, he also engineered on The Sonics' album Introducing The Sonics and the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds.
He is survived by his wife Lyn and two sons.
Thee Vicars win Best Punk Band
Hot on the heels of their stunning set at last week''s DWC show, Thee Vicars have just won the Best Punk Act category at the Indy Awards held at The Forum last night.
If you were unfortunate enough to miss them last Friday, they''ll be back at the DWC on the 9th May. In the mean time take a look at what you''re missing out on right here - http://youtube.com/watch?v=0FwDuJOVKIE
Brian Jonestown Massacre and Black Lips announce tours
The Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Black Lips have both just announced tours - unfortunately not together, but I guess that would have been too much for anyone in the audience to take in!
Doubtless you'll already have seen both these bands in the more intimate, and non-corporate, confines of the DWC in the past, but if you didn't you'll just have to content yourself with the larger venues both bands are now playing.

The Mummies to reform
They said it would never happen but those garage punk legends The Mummies are getting back together!
The only date confirmed so far is at the Funtastic Dracula Carnival in Valencia, 9–11 October 2008, alongside The King Khan & BBQ Show, the Untamed Youth, Thee Vicars, Palookaville, the New Domolators, plus others still to be confirmed.
What this means is that on Friday 10 October the Dirty Water Club will not be on.

Dave Cloud sells beer
Dave Cloud who, with his band the Gospel of Power, is appearing at Dirty Water on Thursday 8th May, can be seen in a television advert for Budweiser which aired for the first time in the UK on Monday 14th April. In the advert he mentors and inspires a group of musicians who play the tune "Popcorn" using cans and bottles of Budweiser for percussion. Anyway, take our word for it that if anyone is up for the job of being a musical inspiration then Dave Cloud is the man.

DAVE DAY, R.I.P.
It is with great sadness that we heard today, Thursday 10 January, of the death of Dave Day, the man with the banjo in The Monks.
Dave suffered a heart attack last Monday, resulting in a massive brain injury. He was taken off life support and passed away at 6:30 this morning at the Valley Medical Center in Renton, Washington.
Dave was one of the absolutely nicest people that I had the pleasure of meeting. He never lost his passion for rock'n'roll and seeing him at a festival, down in front of the stage enjoying the bands, was a real inspiration. He'll be missed by many, many people.
